A practice centered on criminal defense

Joshua B. Adams is a Chicago-based criminal defense attorney and the founder of Adams Defense Law. His practice includes federal drug and firearm allegations, financial crimes, health care and mortgage fraud, and racketeering matters. He also handles grand jury subpoenas and pre-indictment negotiations.

The firm has offices in Chicago and New York. When you contact the firm, identify the court involved and any upcoming appearance so Joshua can discuss the scope and availability of representation for your particular matter.

02

A foundation in federal court

Joshua earned his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School in 2004. After admission to the Illinois bar, he served as a judicial law clerk to an Article III judge in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

That background is part of a practice focused on understanding both the legal issues and the person affected by them. The first conversation is an opportunity to explain where the matter stands and what you need from counsel.

03

Begin with the questions that matter

What has happened so far? Has an agency contacted you? Is there a charging document, subpoena, or hearing date? Do you already have an attorney? These details help frame a useful initial discussion without requiring you to send a complete case file through email.

An initial inquiry is also a chance to ask about communication, the proposed engagement, fees, and the next decision that needs attention. Representation and its scope must be confirmed with the firm.

PREPARE FOR A CONVERSATION

A useful place to start.

  • The court or agency involved, if known
  • Any upcoming date or written deadline
  • A safe number and time for a return call

Begin with contact details and dates. Ask the firm how to provide any documents securely.

Your questions.

Can I speak with the firm before charges are filed?

Yes. The practice includes subpoenas and pre-indictment matters. Tell the firm about the contact you received and any response date.

Can a family member make the first call?

Yes. You may request a conversation on someone else’s behalf. Explain your relationship and provide a safe way to reach you.
